Young moved her home to Los Angeles, landing roles in the roles of Cathy Metsker and Rachel in JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 starring Tom Cruise and Keri Russel. There she also produced some independent films including The Freebie featuring Dax Shepherd and A Country Remedy with Joshua Leonard. The film was shot all at North Carolina. Once in LA Young was also able to begin a long & varied TV career, appearing to date on over forty shows, including Grey s Anatomy Private Practice 2 1/2 Men The West Wing ER Frasier Boston Legal Cold Case NCIS and Law & Order. Young can be currently present in her award-winning character as first lady Mellie Grant in ABC s hit series Scandal and also in the coming Zoe Cassavetes film Day out of Days. Young is also working on an adult contemporary album which includes covers of Fleetwood Mac Tom Waits and Ryan Adams. Young released Far Away So Close, her debut album on iTunes on 15 May 2015. She was in Megan Griffiths' crime drama The Night Stalker, about serial killer Richard Ramirez. She also appeared in an independent film titled Bernard and Huey with Jim Rash and David Koechner. A live action Disney version of A Wrinkle in Time, with Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon Mindy Kaing and Reese witherspoon in 2018, was her first significant role.
